I use “Createx AutoAir" latex paint for the color and then a two part automotive clear coat. (Dupont Croma clear)  The auto clear coat is the only product, except epoxy paint, that will stand up to 30% nitro.

Both are way toxic, so wear the right gear or get your local body shop to do the clear.  Often times if you talk nice they will do them for free (at the end of a car job)

You can put automotive clear on most latex, enamel paints. You should test first.

Any more question?

Cheers

For base colors and simple graphics, I have more success just using the automotive canned spray paints.  But if I have to break out the airbrush for fades, shadows, and finer graphics,  then the Createx is the safer alternative when you need finer control.

And as Mark has said, never attempt to apply your own Clear Coat.  That product is very toxic and needs a mask with an outside air source.

Thanks Guys,

I bought Sheldon a CF canopy before christmas and it is still in the box.

Anyone know if they sell Canopy's at IRCHA.  We are going to be down there and I would like to buy a custom painted one.

I use the same as mentioned above.  Autoair colors and dupont 2 part automotive clearcoat.  the clear works great with the paint, and the paint is a breeze to work with.  spray it on and hit it with a bit of heat from a heat gun and its dry.

the autoair i dont use a mask most of the time, but i probably should.  its water based so its not TOO bad.  but the clear is a different story.  if you do it yourself, get a carbon filter mask.  something that protects against fumes.  dust masks wont work.

just my $.02

Hay forced_induction,

Are you still interested in painting some canopies for $$$.  If I don't find anything in IRCHA I'd still be interested in getting someone to paint on for me.

Let me know.
